Diversity Growth - It Fuels our Company's Growth

Diversity at International Paper includes race and gender differences but is much broader.  It encompasses behavioral differences, age, ethnicity, physical condition, sexual orientation and both cultural and national origin. Diversity is so important because, first and foremost, it's the right thing to do. It is also one of our Principles of Excellence to "treat each other with dignity and respect, and believe in diversity of thought, culture and background."

Our objective is not only to have a more diverse company and be more inclusive, but also to encourage different kinds of thinking.  It's all about encouraging people to bring their own talents, behavior and background to the table so we can work together to develop business solutions.  In 2001, the Chairman?s Diversity Council was formed from a representative group of employees to address company-wide issues, help all employees understand and appreciate the diversity value that their co-workers bring to the workplace, and create an environment that is progressive, flexible and inclusive, drawing upon the strength of a diverse workforce.
