The Challenge
Consumers on-the-go like drinking coffee from paper cups. It allows them to enjoy the natural taste, especially with premium and gourmet coffees. But when a cup gets too hot to handle, coffee vendors often have to provide a second cup or a paperboard sleeve to keep excessive heat from consumers’ hands. This adds to vendors' costs and the sleeve sometimes makes it difficult to place the cup in a car’s drink holder.

The IP Innovation
Scientists at International Paper developed and patented a totally new kind of paperboard – one that provides greater insulation – and formed it into a remarkable new hot drink cup called KX2. Since the new cup provides low heat transfer, consumers are comfortable holding coffee, tea or other hot beverages for longer periods.
And while they were improving the cup, IP’s scientists and product development experts gave it a new non-slip texture so it’s easier to pick up and hold. In addition, IP’s scientists developed a tight-fitting lid that snaps into place. The innovative KX2 cup and lid is available in the most popular sizes – 12-oz., 16-oz., 20-oz., and 24-oz. – and can be custom printed, so vendors can enhance their brand identity. |
