International Paper Supports Reforesta’s Biodiversity Initiative – Funds Tree Planting in Madrid

We proud to have recently supported Reforesta, a Spanish non-profit organization in their efforts to fight desertification and restore vegetation. Our donation funded the planting of 130 trees in Villamanrique de Tajo, a municipality in Madrid. This initiative not only enhances biodiversity in the area but also improves water retention and offers numerous other benefits.
The Tajo Valley, known for its agricultural landscape and diverse herbaceous vegetation, predominantly features grasses and various shrubs, with very few trees due to the hot and dry climate. Reforesta addressed this by planting resilient native species and using water-retaining basins and protective shelters. The trees were planted in clusters to mimic natural forests, including flowering species to support nectar-feeding insects like honey bees.
International Paper’s donation covered the planting process and includes two years of maintenance, extending until 2026. Fostering Healthy & Abundant Forests is part of our Vision 2030 goals to create a sustainable and thriving environment for future generations.
Reforesta, a non-profit association founded in 1991, has planted, watered, and cared for more than 83,000 trees with the help of companies, partners, and volunteers. The organization focuses on the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals 13 (climate action) and 15 (life on land), prioritizing vegetation recovery and combating desertification.
