Mark Sutton became chairman of the International Paper Board of Directors on January 1, 2015. He served as CEO from November 1, 2014 to April 30, 2024

Sutton has been with the company his entire career. He joined International Paper in 1984, as an engineer at the Pineville, La., mill. In 1994, he was named mill manager at the Thilmany, Wisc. mill, which at the time was part of International Paper’s industrial papers business. In 2000, Sutton relocated to Europe to serve as director of European corrugated packaging operations and was promoted to vice president and general manager responsible for all corrugated packaging operations across seven countries in the EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) region in 2002. In 2005, he was named vice president – strategic planning and relocated to Memphis. He was appointed vice president – supply chain in 2007 and elected senior vice president – supply chain in 2008. In 2010, Sutton became senior vice president – printing and communications papers of the Americas. Sutton was appointed senior vice president – industrial packaging in November 2011. In 2014, he served as president and chief operating officer with responsibility for leading and running the company’s global businesses. He has been a member of the International Paper Board of Directors since June 1, 2014 and has served as Chairman of the Board since January 2015.  

Sutton serves on the Board of Directors for The Kroger Company (NYSE: KR), a retail company that operates supermarkets and multi-department stores throughout the United States. He is a member of the Business Roundtable and The Business Council. He also serves on the board of directors of the American Forest & Paper Association, Memphis Tomorrow and the LSU Foundation.  

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Louisiana State University.

Andrew “Andy” Silvernail joined International Paper as Chief Executive Officer on May 1, 2024.  

Silvernail has two decades of experience leading global companies in the manufacturing and technology sectors. He joins IP from KKR & Co., Inc., a global investment firm, where he served as an executive advisor. Silvernail served as the Chairman and CEO of Madison Industries, one of the world's largest privately held companies. Prior to that, Silvernail served as Chairman and CEO of IDEX Corporation from 2011 to 2020. Employee engagement reached best-in-class performance and total shareholder return grew by more than 500% during his tenure at IDEX. Silvernail previously held executive positions at Rexnord Industries, Newell Rubbermaid and Danaher Corporation. He serves on the Board of Directors of Stryker Corporation.

Silvernail earned a bachelor’s degree in government from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Jamie A. Beggs, 47, currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Avient Corporation (NYSE: AVNT), a premier provider of specialized and sustainable materials solutions and services. In her current role, she is responsible for all areas of finance and investor relations, as well as, at times, information technology and corporate communications. She is also helping lead the organization through a strategy focused on long-term sales growth leveraging innovative and sustainable solutions, growth into new end markets and geographies, and expansion of EBITDA margins. Previously, Beggs served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Hunt Consolidated and prior to that, spent a decade in various roles at Celanese Corporation. Jacqueline C. Hinman, 61, serves as chief executive officer of Atlas Technical Consultants, a leading infrastructure and environmental solutions provider since January 8, 2024. Ms. Hinman previously served as chairman, president and chief executive officer of CH2M HILL Companies, Ltd., a Fortune 500 engineering and consulting firm focused on delivering infrastructure, energy, environmental and industrial solutions for clients and communities around the world, until December 2017, when the firm was acquired by Jacobs Solutions, Inc. Clinton A. Lewis, Jr., 56, is the chief executive officer of AgroFresh Solutions, Inc., a global leader in sustainable food chain investing, since April 2021. From May 2015 until February 2020, he served as executive vice president and group president of international operations, commercial development, global genetics and PHARMAQ at Zoetis Inc. (NYSE: ZTS), a global leader in the discovery, development, manufacture and commercialization of animal health medicines and vaccines that was spun off by Pfizer in 2013. Prior to that role, Lewis served as president of international operations at Zoetis from 2013 to 2015 and as president of U.S. operations from 2015 to 2018. Kathryn D. Sullivan, 71, Ambassador-at-Large at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, where she also served as The Charles A. Lindbergh Fellow of Aerospace History from March 2017 through August 2017. Dr. Sullivan is also a Senior Fellow at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies. Dr. Sullivan served in several roles in the U.S. Department of Commerce and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) between May 2011 and January 2017, including as Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans & Atmosphere and NOAA Administrator from March 2014 until January 2017. She served as a Director for The Ohio State University’s Battelle Center for Mathematics and Science Education Policy from 2006 through 2011. Between 1996 and 2005, Dr. Sullivan served as President and CEO of the Center of Science and Industry (COSI). Between 1978 and 1993, Dr. Sullivan was a Mission Specialist for NASA. She is a veteran of three Shuttle missions with over 500 hours in space, and she is the first American woman to walk in space. Dr. Sullivan served on the boards of directors of several public companies between 1997 and 2011. She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Public Administration.
